Chef Annmarie Chelius of The Academy of Culinary Arts in Mays Landing visited Ocean City Intermediate School in Ocean City, NJ. as part of the kick-off to Jersey Fresh Farm to School Week.
She and her student, Karen, presented an herb identification and tasting with the herbs coming from the Academy greenhouse. A local farm, Leipi’s, in Mays Landing, provided some Jersey Fresh tomatoes and squash. The Food and Consumer Science 6th graders helped the chef as they prepared fresh pesto with whole grain pasta and tomato and herb bruschetta. The students also discussed any visits they had made to farms with their families. Mrs. Linda Spengler, their teacher prepared the local squashes as part of her curriculum the following week.
